In the 70's

Martial Arts Became Our Life.

From the dusty attic...Mr. O's Dojo ID card back in Bandirma Turkey when he was 10 years old.  "...Couldn't sleep at nights, thinking about Kyokushinkai Karate..."  His advice to the new comers:  Put aside a penny for every kick you throw.

Kicking high in Ankara, Turkey.  This is a picture perfect Rising Kick.  Rising Kicks are mainly used to train the leg muscles for dynamic movement.  Master the Rising Kick, and you can do all your forward kicks with out difficulty.

Mr. O's Athlete ID Card.  First days in Taekwondo and Karate competition, trying out for Turkish Junior National Team.  "Mom packed a big jar of honey for the long bus ride, from Bandirma to Bursa."  Yes back in those days everyone had hair like that!

Tile Breaking by Tatlisu, Bandirma.  When it comes to breaking, take Mr. O's advice, he has done a lot of it since the 70's:  Work hard, condition your body and know your limits.

 

In the 80's

The Mat became our friend.

Mr. O's with his Hapkido mentor, Grandmaster Choi.  Mr. Choi is the founder of Chang Woo Hapkido, a traditional Hapkido system based on the original Hapkido techniques practiced in Korea when the art was first created.  Mr. O's was Mr. Choi's top disciple and student for many years.

Hapkido Double Jump Kick performed by Mr. O's.  This is one of the more acrobatic kicks of Hapkido.

A Jump Spinning Crescent Kick.  Crescent kicks can be done spinning, jumping and 360 degrees jumping/spinning.  Crescent kicks are a Hapkido trademark.

 

The 90's

The Decade of the Hapkido Ki Gong Demonstrations.

In the Dojang (Training Hall).  Beginnings of teaching Hapkido in Hawaii.  In the background is Garry, a very talented gentleman, first Black Belt awarded student in Hawaii.

Behind the podium.  Besides being a professional martial artist, Mr. O's is also an experienced college teacher who has taught classes in more than forty different subjects (So far)!

In the Chinese Herbal Medicine and Acupuncture Clinic.  Same as the traditional martial arts teachers of thousands years ago, Mr. O's was trained in the Eastern Healing Arts by the Taoist Masters from the Lung Hu Shan Temple (Dragon Tiger Mountain), located in Yangxi Province, China.  Mr. O's favorite past time:  Studying and making the classic martial arts herbal formulas.

An extension throw performed near Diamond Head.  Extension throws in Hapkido are accomplished by redirecting the opponents momentum.  With student Cable, a very talented gentleman.  One of the first students Mr.O trained to Black Belt Level in Hawaii.

Demonstration of Hapkido Ki Gong.  Dragging concrete foundation block with bicycle Spokes through the arms as spectators look on.  Also called Hard Style Chi Kung in Chinese Martial Arts,  Hapkido Ki Gong is an advanced level of Hapkido training.

This picture is our favorite.  Another Hapkido Ki Gong picture taken near Diamond Head in Hawaii.  Hapkido Ki Gong is a rarely seen aspect of Hapkido in the west.  

 

  The New Millennia

Amy Young, talented Master Instructor of Hapkido Hawaii receives her Fourth Degree Black Belt in Hapkido from Mr. O through Tao International Martial Arts Association.  Currently Amy Holds a 5th Degree Black Belt in Hapkido under Mr.O's organization.

Justin Crosby receives his First Degree Black Belt in Hapkido from Mr.O through Tao International Martial Arts Association.  Currently Justin holds the rank of Second Degree Black Belt in Hapkido under Mr.O's organization.
